University of Denver

Hilary Sullivan • November 16, 2022

In June 2022, I visited University of Denver (DU) for the first time. Though a city location, it's gorgeous, nestled on 125 acres in a residential neighborhood adjacent to Roosevelt National Forest and 8 miles from city center. DU educates 5600 undergrads on a quarter system with a common core. Classes are generally small, and all freshmen take a first year "How to College" seminar with a professor who also serves as their first year advisor. Students interested in the honors college apply separately after completing the Common Application. Top programs include the Knoebel School of Hospitality Management, Business Management, International Studies, and Political Science. DU is also known for its top Learning Effectiveness Program (LEP) offering outstanding and comprehensive support services for 350 students each year.
