I enjoyed my first visit to University of San Diego, a private Catholic university of 5700 undergraduates founded on the principles of beauty, goodness, and truth. The breathtaking campus’ main quad rests on a bluff overlooking stunning views of Mission Bay. USD prides itself as one of 42 Changemaker campuses around the world, focused on the Ashoka commitment to social justice, innovation, entrepreneurship, sustainability, global perspective, and civic and community engagement. All freshmen complete a first-year course and are assigned a Learning and Living Community aligned with one of these six objectives. USD offers a core liberal arts curriculum and top majors include business- with a brand-new gorgeous building- psychology, mechanical engineering, communications, and biology. The average class size is 21 students and the student to faculty ratio is 12:1. Students enjoy numerous opportunities to study abroad and there is also a January semester offering sophomores another study abroad opportunity for USD credit. Overall, there are numerous opportunities and a lot to love at this medium sized university.
