I visited UC San Diego, a STEM oriented research university home to 33,343 undergraduates in gorgeous La Jolla. UCSD uses an eight-college system, they compare to Hogwarts’s houses, to create a more manageable experience for their undergraduates. Each student is assigned to a college offering its students support, personal advising, as well as unique traditions and events. With more than 140 majors, the opportunities are boundless however, they did discuss how difficult it can be to gain acceptance or to transfer into some of the capped programs, with computer science and engineering proving the toughest. Sadly, the university chose not to offer a guided tour, so my experience was limited.
